Police Release Alleged Protesters, Including Senegalese
NewsTop StoriesApr 20, 2016 1330
Following arrests made during the recent protests staged by the opposition UDP, this paper has confirmed that Gambian police yesterday released 15 Gambians arrested for participating in the protests that were held without a permit. The release was made after the Police investigations established that these people were not connected with the protests.
In a similar development, sources close to Police headquarters have confirmed that 3 people (2 Senegalese and 1 Cameroonian national) also arrested in connection with the illegal protests were released yesterday. Their release came after diplomatic efforts from the Senegalese authorities confirmed that they happened to be in The Gambia by mistake, having been on a mission on behalf of Senegal’s Environment Ministry close to the border and entered Gambian territory unknowingly.
